Coaching institute Allen terminates 70 sales employees from its NExT division.

Allen Career Institute has reportedly cut around 60-70 jobs from the sales department of its medical test preparation arm, Allen NExT, since December last year, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to ET. The layoffs have affected centers in Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Panchkula, with offline teaching operations also ceasing. Allen NExT, through its app launched in April 2023, offers coaching for postgraduate entrance tests in medicine such as NEET PG, INI-CET, and FMGE. Following a change in top management in September, the course price was reduced from Rs 45,999 to Rs 3,000 in January. Some students have reported issues with the app's functionality and course content, expressing disappointment with the course's comprehensiveness. Additionally, Allen Career Institute has allegedly ceased hiring since November and implemented stricter sales metrics tracking, leading to resignations of 10-15 employees monthly. The company's growth stagnation and increased competition from platforms like PrepLadder and Marrow have contributed to these changes. Founded in 1988, Allen Career Institute has been bolstering its online education presence and received a $600 million investment from Bodhi Tree Systems in 2022, with Bodhi Tree Systems now holding a 36% stake in the institute.
