The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organized the inaugural 'ONDC Startup Mahotsav' on May 17, 2024, at Vanijya Bhawan. This event marked the convergence of two key initiatives by DPIIT: Startup India and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh reiterated the government's dedication to fostering a conducive environment for startup growth and innovation, highlighting the significance of leveraging ONDC opportunities for startups in India.

Around 5,000 startups participated in the event, both in-person and virtually, with over 125 ecosystem stakeholders, including well-known startups like EaseMyTrip, OfBusiness, Winzo, and others, signing Letters of Intent (LoIs) during the event, showcasing their interest in collaborating with ONDC. Joint Secretary Sanjiv stressed the importance of startups in driving innovation and competition within the ONDC ecosystem.

MD & CEO of ONDC, T. Koshy, emphasized the event's role in India's digital transformation journey, empowering startups to redefine e-commerce norms. The event showcased the collaboration between ONDC and Startup India, aiming to onboard more startups onto the platform and foster their growth. Panel discussions and masterclasses focused on mutual collaboration opportunities and the potential for startups to scale-up through ONDC.

Since its launch in 2021, ONDC has become fully operational, providing a level playing field for e-commerce players, especially small-scale businesses. Startups, crucial for achieving self-reliance, face challenges in market creation, which ONDC aims to address. This collaboration signifies the government's commitment to strengthening the startup ecosystem and democratizing e-commerce through innovative initiatives like ONDC.
