This Man Brought Aloe Vera to Rajasthan—Now Earns ₹1 Crore Annually

Vinayak Agro Herbal Limited, a Rajasthan-based startup founded in 2021, supplies organic medicinal products to pharmaceutical companies across India while also partnering with farmers to boost their income.

Imagine having a deep desire to start something of your own since college, only to face repeated failures. Many would have given up, convincing themselves it wasn’t meant to be. Others might have regretted their decisions from the start. But only a few would persist, rebuild from the ground up, and create a multi-crore empire. This is the story of Rakesh Choudhary, the founder of Vinayak Agro Herbal Limited.

Rakesh hails from a small village in Kuchaman City, Rajasthan. An academically gifted student, he pursued a BSc degree from Maharaja College, Rajasthan, and also completed a BCA course. Rakesh’s father cultivated traditional crops on a small piece of land, but Rakesh believed there was much more to explore.

In 2003, while still studying, Rakesh ventured into the field of medicinal plants. This journey began in Jaipur when a friend introduced him to the Rajasthan Medicinal Plant Board, which had recently been established. The Board's main goal was to promote contract farming among farmers, encouraging them to grow medicinal plants.

Rakesh started training with the Board and eventually took on the responsibility of working directly with local farmers, understanding their challenges, and persuading them to transition to medicinal plant farming. At that time, the medicinal plant sector was highly unorganized, and farmers were reluctant to move away from traditional crops, struggling with how to market medicinal plants.

However, the Board had launched a project that stood out from other rural initiatives, offering a subsidy that exceeded the loan. The project required only a 10% bank loan, provided a 30% subsidy, and had a 60% promoter's share. Rakesh’s interest in medicinal plants grew, leading him to work part-time while pursuing his degrees. His role involved preparing farmer projects, assisting with pre-appraisals, and helping farmers resolve various issues.
