The Pallippuram grama panchayat veterinary dispensary in Cherai has been without a doctor for nine months, causing significant problems for livestock farmers. Local residents have criticized the authorities for not filling the position since the previous doctor was transferred, leaving many cattle and poultry farmers without necessary veterinary care.

The panchayat, consisting of 23 wards, is home to approximately 500 dairy farmers with over 1,500 cattle. Many women in the area also depend on chickens for their livelihood. The absence of a veterinary doctor has forced these farmers to seek treatment elsewhere, incurring extra costs and missing out on benefits from the animal husbandry department.

Additionally, the dispensary building was demolished a few months ago for the construction of a new facility, but progress has been slow despite allocated funds. Currently, the dispensary operates out of a small temporary building at the construction site with only two employees. Despite numerous complaints, no action has been taken to resolve these issues.

Youth Congress State Secretary P A Nobal Kumar warned of strong protests if a permanent solution is not found soon. Meanwhile, authorities have promised that a doctor will be appointed shortly and claimed there have been no delays in providing services.
