On Friday, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat commemorated the 299th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the revered warrior queen of the Maratha empire. He highlighted her exemplary character, emphasizing that she remains a model for leadership even in contemporary times. Despite facing the tragedy of widowhood, Ahilyabai Holkar not only managed but expanded her vast kingdom, ensuring its governance was efficient and effective. Bhagwat praised her administrative acumen, stating that she exemplified the ideal ruler.

Bhagwat lauded Ahilyabai Holkar for her substantial contributions to the economic and social welfare of her people. She established robust industries, particularly in textiles, to provide employment. Remarkably, the textile industry in Maheshwar, which she initiated, continues to operate successfully, providing jobs to many even today. Bhagwat noted that the title "Punyashlok" associated with her name signifies a ruler who alleviates the hardships of their people. Ahilyabai Holkar's initiatives in industry and employment are a testament to this.

Further, Bhagwat noted her efficient tax system and her considerate policies towards farmers, which contributed to the overall prosperity of her kingdom. He expressed joy that efforts to honor and remember her legacy will continue throughout the year.

Born on May 31, 1725, in the village of Chaundi in present-day Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, Ahilyabai Holkar is celebrated as one of Indian history's most distinguished female rulers.
