Industry body Nasscom announced a partnership with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta to launch the Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge, aimed at fostering a startup and developer community focused on open-source and generative AI for positive socio-economic impact. The initiative, in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), will provide the necessary computational resources. Ankit Bose, Head of Nasscom AI, highlighted the challenge's commitment to supporting open-source AI development and driving socio-economic impact through innovative solutions.
The challenge invites GenAI startups and developers in sectors such as education, enterprise, and e-governance. Winners will receive up to Rs. 4 lakh, while runners-up will get up to Rs. 1 lakh each. Participants will also receive mentorship from senior industry professionals. Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy (India) at Meta, emphasized that openly available AI models democratize access to advanced AI technology, enabling Indian developers to create innovative solutions across various domains and contributing to the development of India’s AI capabilities and economic growth.
