
MYStartup NXT, a series of micro-conferences organized by MYStartup, commences the year in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, with the aim of tapping into the potential startups in the state. Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal, views the event, held in collaboration with Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd. (Cradle) and Iskandar Investment Bhd. (IIB), as a platform offering aspiring and existing entrepreneurs the chance to learn, network, and engage with corporates, technology giants, investors, and other relevant stakeholders to kickstart and expand their businesses. Apdal stated, "MYStartup remains committed to empowering startups in the country, and our commitment knows no boundaries. We will continue to address challenges encompassing capital, talent, and infrastructure constraints. I'm confident that Johor's landscape will flourish and serve as a pivotal catalyst for our economic growth."
Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, CEO of Cradle Group, expressed pride in witnessing thriving startup ecosystems across Malaysia. He emphasized the role of collaborative efforts in fostering an entrepreneurial landscape, noting Cradle's commitment to nurturing innovation through its pillars of founders, investors, and tech developers. Vanhaecke highlighted Cradle's onboarded Johor-based startups, including DF Automation & Robotics, Materials in Works, Sayur Kita Asia, and Imagine AI.
As the host, Datuk Idzham Mohd Hashim, President, and CEO of IIB, expressed excitement at being the Southern chapter partner for MYStartup. Recognizing the role of startups in driving economic development, IIB, as the master developer of Medini, aims to harness the potential of Malaysia's startup companies through collaboration with MOSTI via Cradle. Hashim emphasized Medini's recognition as Johor's digital hub and its potential to nurture a dynamic ecosystem where startups can thrive and contribute to socio-economic growth.
Johor was chosen as the inaugural location for MYStartup NXT to support the national goal of creating over 5,000 quality startups by 2025. Johor's rapidly expanding startup ecosystem, strategic positioning, proactive government initiatives, and burgeoning talent pool make it an ideal location for startups. Its proximity to Singapore, a vibrant tech hub, offers valuable networking, collaboration, and talent acquisition opportunities. According to StartupBlink's Global Startup Ecosystem Index Report, Johor Bahru has made significant progress, securing a spot among the top 600 cities worldwide in 2023 and maintaining its position as the third most vibrant ecosystem in Malaysia.
