
Ecommerce platform Meesho has brought on four senior industry leaders as independent directors to its board, aiming to expand its customer base in the market. The new members are Kalpana Morparia, CEO of JP Morgan & Co. India; Hari S Bhartia, founder and co-chairman of Jubilant Bhartia Group; Surojit Chatterjee, founder and CEO of Ema Unlimited; and Rohit Bhagat, non-executive chairman of PhonePe. These appointees will help Meesho navigate the changing ecommerce landscape and achieve its goal of becoming the top ecommerce destination for Indian internet users, according to a company statement.
Currently, Meesho's board consists of six members, including co-founders Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Prosus Ventures' head of investments and M&A Ashutosh Sharma, Peak XV Partners' MD Mohit Bhatnagar, Elevation Capital's co-managing partner Mukul Arora, and SoftBank Investment Advisers' partner Sarthak Misra.
Founded in 2015 by Aatrey and Barnwal, Meesho boasts over 1.5 million sellers on its platform from across India and more than 140 million annual transacting users. To date, it has raised over $1.08 billion. Despite leadership challenges, Meesho reported an operating revenue of INR 5,735 crore in FY23, a 77% increase from INR 3,232 crore in the previous fiscal year.
