On January 28th, in Kathua, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is rapidly becoming an Agri Startup hub. He urged local youth to participate in this ecosystem, aligning with the national goal of making India the top economy in the next 25 years. Dr. Singh spoke at a Kisan Sammelan by CSIR-IIIM in Hiranagar, praising the pivotal role of Himalayan States like Jammu and Kashmir in the vision for India in 2047.
Dr. Singh highlighted the success of lavender farming in the Jammu region, noting the involvement of over three thousand youth in this self-employment initiative. He emphasized that the perception of startup eligibility has changed, and Jammu Kashmir is emerging as an Agri Startup hub. The Republic Day tableau featuring lavender farms in Bhaderwah showcased the region's contribution to the "Purple Revolution," now adopted in other Himalayan States.
The foundation of this Agri Startup hub was laid in Bhaderwah, where lavender cultivation is part of the Aroma Mission by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Dr. Singh credited Prime Minister Modi and the government's efforts, providing support, training, industry linkages, and logistical aid to promote this revolution. Lavender products from Bhaderwah are sold in states like Maharashtra, contributing to economic growth.
Dr. Singh emphasized that unexplored or under-explored areas hold economic potential, and the role of Jammu and Kashmir in the purple revolution is crucial for India's development by 2047. In response to questions about safety measures for border area residents, especially in Kathua, Dr. Singh mentioned the construction of bunkers, improved road connectivity, and reservations for border residents along the International Border.
