IIT-Madras will offer funding to support the incubation of sports technology start-ups.

IIT-Madras is set to provide funding of up to Rs 5 crore to support innovative sports technology startups in India, aiming to enhance the connection between technology and the sports industry. The initiative, led by the IIT-Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and the IIT Madras Centre of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA), aims to develop products and applications that improve sports performance.

The funding will support startups focusing on AI and IoT-based products that incorporate sensors, networks, actuators, and controllers. These startups will develop solutions for media and entertainment, such as content creation and streaming platforms, and work on enhancing fan and player engagement through gamification. They will also aim to improve athlete performance measurement, support team and coach success, and contribute to esports. Other focus areas include sports education, sports data analytics for metrics and insights, sports commerce, and building sports communities.

Interested startups can apply through the Pravartak website. The first round of shortlisted submissions will present their business ideas during the 'IIT Madras Sports Technology Start-up Conclave,' scheduled for June 14-15 at the IIT Madras Research Park. This event will be India's first conclave dedicated to this sector. After evaluation by a distinguished panel and final assessment by IIT Madras CESSA and Pravartak Technologies, the shortlisted startups and the extent of their funding will be determined.
