HMSI's director of sales and marketing, Yogesh Mathur, confirmed to PTI that the company will enter the EV segment this fiscal year and aims for one-third of its total sales to come from EVs by 2030. Mathur stated that by 2030, a significant shift towards EVs is expected, and at least one-third of Honda's offerings will be electric models. He also highlighted the increasing contribution of electric vehicles to overall two-wheeler sales.

This development comes as EV adoption accelerates across India, supported by government subsidies and incentives. The market has seen the rise of new-age companies like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Pure EV, while established brands like TVS and Hero Motocorp have also launched electric models. HMSI's move adds to the growing EV competition.

Recently, India's union transport minister, Nitin Gadkari, predicted that the country will achieve 1 crore annual EV sales by 2030, which will create 5 crore jobs. The EV market in India is projected to become a ₹20 lakh crore opportunity by 2030, with EV financing reaching ₹4 lakh crore. The government is preparing to roll out the third phase of the Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme within the next two months.
