Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh's former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, was detained at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Days after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to Delhi amidst escalating protests, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh's former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, was detained at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The political upheaval in Bangladesh has intensified following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament in response to mounting pressure from student protests and civil unrest, leading to the establishment of an interim government led by the military. This administration has been detaining former officials from the previous government to prevent further instability.

Palak's detention occurred while he was attempting to flee to New Delhi. According to local media reports, he was intercepted by staff and workers in the VIP lounge of the airport before being taken into custody by military personnel.

During his tenure, Palak was a key figure in advancing Bangladesh's technological infrastructure. Appointed in 2014, he led various initiatives aimed at digitalising the country and promoting technological innovation. His efforts included the Digital Bangladesh Vision 2021, which sought to leverage technology to improve governance, education, and economic development.

Under his leadership, significant projects were launched, such as the development of high-tech parks, the promotion of start-up ecosystems, and the expansion of internet access across rural areas. These initiatives were designed to foster a knowledge-based economy and make technology more accessible to a broader segment of the population.
