Five major FASTag rule changes are effective from August 1.

Updated: Jul 31

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new guidelines for FASTag users, which will take effect from August 1. These changes aim to streamline toll payments and reduce congestion at toll booths across India. Key updates include mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, which must be completed by October 31, 2024.

Mandatory KYC: Starting August 1, all FASTag users are required to complete the KYC process. This applies to users with FASTags issued between three and five years ago. FASTag service providers must ensure KYC updates for all applicable users by the deadline.

Replacement of Old FASTags: FASTags older than five years must be replaced to ensure they are current and functional. This replacement must be done by October 31.

Linking Vehicle Details: Vehicle registration and chassis numbers must be linked with the FASTag to verify its authenticity and correct association with the vehicle. New vehicle owners must update the registration number within 90 days of purchase.

Database Verification: FASTag providers must verify their databases to ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date, including vehicle details and the association of the FASTag with the user’s mobile number.

Photo Upload Requirement: Users need to upload clear photos of their car’s front and side to the FASTag system for verification purposes and to ensure correct association with the vehicle.
