As browsers continue to integrate AI features, Mozilla aims to offer users more choices. On Tuesday, the company announced an opt-in experiment for its Nightly version of Firefox, providing access to various AI services. Initially, users can choose from ChatGPT, Google Gemini, HuggingChat, and Le Chat Mistral, with plans to add more options in the future.
Ian Carmichael, Firefox's senior vice president, emphasised the importance of choice in AI services. He noted that different services have unique strengths and weaknesses, and allowing users to select their preferred AI helps them find the most suitable one for their needs.
Users who opt in can ask their chosen AI to summarise web page information, simplify language, or quiz them on content. This feature is entirely optional, allowing users to try different chatbots or none at all.
Mozilla's move follows similar integrations by Google, Microsoft, Opera, and DuckDuckGo, which have added AI chatbots to enhance browser functionalities like summarizing web pages and answering questions.
