Funding for late-stage investments nearly tripled to $458 million in May, compared to $149 million in the same month last year. However, investors only made four investments this May, down from eight deals in May of the previous year. It's worth noting that overall funding for the first five months of 2024 saw a slight decrease of about six percent compared to the same period in 2023.
In May, funding for Indian startups remained consistent with previous months, despite the significant late-stage investments. Indian startups secured $812 million across 52 private equity and venture capital deals, which is a 20 percent decrease from the $1,019 million raised in 68 deals a year ago, according to data from the analytics firm Venture Intelligence. This trend occurred even as investors issued substantial late-stage investments of over $100 million to companies like the e-commerce platform Meesho and the governance startup Atlan. While late-stage funding surged to $458 million from $149 million in May of last year, the number of deals halved to four from eight in the same period.
