On February 13 to 14, 2024, the Food Processing & Allied Sectors’ Startup Conclave is scheduled to be inaugurated at NIFTEM – Kundli, Haryana, jointly organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and Startup India. The honourable inauguration will be conducted by Pashupati Kumar Paras, the Minister of Food Processing Industries. This significant two-day event aims to actively involve and empower various stakeholders through a range of activities.

The event will encompass a Showcase Opportunity, providing a platform for startups to present their innovations. Knowledge sessions will offer valuable insights and expertise on industry trends, while pitching sessions will allow startups to present their ideas to potential investors and industry leaders. Networking opportunities will be available to facilitate interactions and collaboration among startups, established companies, and other stakeholders.

The primary objective of this Startup Conclave is to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and support for startups. It seeks to bring together startups, established companies, research institutions, and government agencies to collectively pool resources and develop innovative solutions. Emphasis is placed on knowledge sharing to encourage the exchange of experiences and industry insights, fostering the growth of startups.

Furthermore, the conclave provides a platform for startups to showcase their innovations, gain exposure, and attract potential investments, thereby contributing to the overall advancement of the food processing industry. Currently, there are approximately 3800 startups in the food processing space, with Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana identified as the top 5 States/UTs in this regard. Additionally, about 7800 startups are actively involved in the food and allied sectors.

The enthusiasm for innovation in the field is evident, as demonstrated by 140 startups applying for the Food Processing Grand Challenge. Over the past five years, ending in 2019-20, the food processing sector has exhibited an impressive average annual Growth Rate (AAGR) of around 8.38 per cent, surpassing the growth rate of agriculture, which stands at approximately 4.19 per cent (at 2011-12 prices). Notably, this sector holds the distinction of being the largest employment provider in the country, engaging nearly 21 Lakh people in the organised sector and 51 Lakh in the unorganised segment.
