Indra, a provider of intelligent water treatment systems, has secured $4 million in its Series A funding round, led by Emerald Technology Ventures and Mela Ventures. Other participants in the round include Peak Sustainability Ventures and The Climate Angels. Co-founded in 2017 by Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, Indra addresses the intricate challenges of water treatment in industrial and sewage sectors through its patented electro-chemical oxidation and coagulation process.

Indra's technology utilizes ionic reactions to eliminate various pollutants from wastewater, such as unwanted substances, heavy metals, suspended solids, phosphorus, fats, oil, grease, pathogens, and dissolved organics. The company's proprietary water treatment solution is a plug-and-play system that requires 90% less space than existing alternatives and can recover up to 99% of treated water.

Amrit Om Nayak expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Mela Ventures, stating that their shared passion for sustainable solutions provides the confidence to pursue and deliver on Indra's commitment to advancing the world's transition to sustainable water management.

Indra currently focuses on treating industrial effluents from sectors like textiles, steel manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, as well as sewage from hotels and commercial properties. The company claims to have treated over a billion liters of water, potentially achieving up to 75% net carbon savings with their water treatment assets. Their technology boasts space efficiency, generating 70% less sludge, requiring 90% less human intervention, and saving 35% in life cycle costs.
