According to a report, Google, under the leadership of Sundar Pichai, has rented a new office in Bengaluru for Rs 4 crore per month.

Under the leadership of Sundar Pichai, Google has reportedly rented a new office in Alembic City, Whitefield, Bengaluru. According to a report from ET, the company has leased 649,000 square feet of space at a rate of Rs 62 per square foot per month, amounting to a total monthly rent of Rs 4,02,38,000. The lease includes a three-year lock-in period.

This move aligns with Google's broader strategy, which aims to reduce costs by hiring more affordable labor outside the U.S. This strategy became evident over a month after Google laid off employees in its U.S. offices. Google's CFO, Ruth Porat, mentioned in an email to employees about ongoing restructuring efforts, emphasising  a greater focus on creating "hubs" in cities like Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin, while still maintaining a significant presence in the San Francisco Bay Area. CNBC reported that these hubs will also include Chicago and Atlanta.

In India, apart from the new Bengaluru office, Google renewed its lease for 600,000 square feet of office space in Hyderabad in 2022 through its subsidiary, Google Connect Services India Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, the company agreed to lease 1.3 million square feet of office space from Bagmane Developers in Bengaluru. Since 2020, Google has increased its office space in India by 3.5 million square feet, operating in five cities with a total of 9.3 million square feet.

Google's expansion in India also includes significant manufacturing plans. The company intends to manufacture smartphones at a Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu, starting with the Pixel 8 model. Google emphasized its commitment to the Indian market in a recent blog post. Moreover, Google plans to start drone manufacturing in the state, as initially announced during the Google for India conference last year, reflecting a broader strategy to boost local production capabilities.
